Prayer is a way to connect to God, and talk to him about your problems. If you bend on your knees and talk to God, about your problems, he will surely answer you. A lot of people also pray to God just for praises for the good thing he has been doing for them in their life. You pray to God to mercy upon the lives of the dead, for peaceful repose. So in this article, I would list and explain Two (2) reasons why people need prayer.
1. To be Spiritually Connected to God
Most of the problems that Christians experience today comes from spiritual immaturity, do you know why?
Because if you are spiritually immature, you will make a lot of bad decisions. This sounds harsh or bad ,but it’s true because these decisions are made from your fleshly nature, and not your spiritually nature. So a lot of times you make decisions based on what you feel like, instead of what you know to be true. What you feel change all the time, because your emotions are unstable, it’s not based on the truth, so it can lie to you.
How do you grow spiritually in God to become a mature christian?
There are four (4) basic things you need to grow spiritually in God, they are like four wheels of a car needed to move a car forward. They are,
1. The Word of God
To grow spiritually you need to know God himself, you need to learn who God really is. It works the same in any kind of relationship, when you meet someone for the first time, you need to know them, who they really are, what they like and dislike. God is exactly the same. You need to know who God really his, and God reveal himself, through his word, the bible. Peter said in 2 PETER 1:3 – 8 ”By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” He says he has given us everything we need for a godly life.
How did he give it to us? Through our knowledge of him. Some Christians believe their relationship with God is by how they feel..No that not what Gods says, they bible says through our knowledge of God.
How do you increase the knowledge of God? You will look for what he said and revealed to us in the bible. Study the bible, because that’s the only truth out there in the world. The only source and absolute truth. The bible is thoroughly equiped, because you don’t need to add anything to the bible or remove anything from the bible. So be very careful when you listen to Christian preachers out there don’t just believe anything that they’re saying according to the Bible in 1 John 4 : 1, he says do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2. Prayer
God looks at your heart. He doesn’t look at the big words you use, or the small words you use Prayer is just you talking to the all mighty, all powerful God, Honestly and through your spirit. John 4:24 says; “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” So with that said, let’s look at what the Bible says about growing spiritually in God, through prayer.
Prayer is one of the requirements, one of the four wheels needed for spiritual growth in God and any great relationship requires good communication. And God wants us to talk to Him! The Bible says in James 4:8; “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
So how is your relationship with God really? How do you pray to Him? Well, let’s look at what Jesus says about how He wants us to pray to God. He says in Matthew 6:5-6; “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.”
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. ” So here we see that God wants special time with you. He wants you to go into your room, close the door and spend time with him and He is unseen – He is Spirit, so we have to pray to Him in the spirit. Then Jesus says, “. then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans. For they think they will be heard Because of their many words. Do not be like them. For your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
” You see, big or small words, it doesn’t really matter. There is no secret recipe to prayer like praying with your Bible open or praying with a cross or even praying the same things over and over and think that the repetitions that you use with your words, will create some kind of miracle. The Bible doesn’t say that anywhere. When you pray, God is always listening, but He’s looking through your words, straight into your heart – into your spirit. He’s looking at your INTENTIONS. And with that in mind, Jesus goes on and He explains to us how we should pray.
In verse 9 He says, “This then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts As we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
3. Fellowship with other Christians
Do you know the full law of God? Going back to all the prophets. Not just the the New Testament, but going back to the Old Testament. Well, most of you know the Ten Commandments, right? But did you know that the whole law Comes down to two things? It hangs only on two main things. Let me read it to you. Matthew 22:36, “Teacher, which is the Great Commandment in the law? Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and Great Commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ” Now, listen to this.
“On these two Commandments hang all the law and the Prophets. ” It makes sense, right? Because if you truly love God with your whole heart, with your whole soul, with your whole mind you will of course obey his law. And if you love your neighbor as yourself, you will not do anything to hurt them. You will not steal from them. You would not falsely accuse them. You won’t do anything bad towards them. You see, God wants us to have a loving relationship with Him and with each other. Jesus says in John 13:34, “A new commandment give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, That you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” Now, let me ask you a question. Do you love other people, as you love yourself?
It’s a hard question, right? And not easy. And I know some people out there, they make you angry, and some people just make you sad. It is really hard to love other people as yourself, Because People lie. They steal, they murder, there’s a lot of corruption going on right now in the world. There’s all these bad things and who is doing all of these things? It’s human beings. So it’s hard to love other human beings, as you love yourself, Right?
Well, you know they are this way, because they have a sinful nature. But guess what? You have a sinful nature as well. So do I! I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life. And I guess you have too. So let me tell you this. You don’t have to love the sin of other people, But you have to love them. In the same way that God still loved us, while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. This is just amazing. That God loved us, while we were still sinners. Would you die for somebody? Not just anybody, but sinners. Would you give your life for a sinner?
4. Testify (Share the Good News)
All right! So you became a real Christian, you study the Bible and you have a real relationship with God; where you talk to Him and He talks to you. You joined a church where you have fellowship with other believers.
And so what’s next?
Well, it’s time to share your testimony! It’s time to testify! It’s time to share the gospel – the truth of Jesus Christ – to other people.
[Romans 10:13] says, ‘For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. ” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?
And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!
” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report? “‘ Now listen carefully to this: ‘So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
‘ So true faith comes by hearing the Word of God. And God wants to use people; He wants us to share His truth with other people. And you know the first thing that will happen when you start to share the gospel, God’s Word, is that you will grow spiritually fast – a lot faster.
Why? Because to share the Word, you need to know the Word. How can you share it if you don’t really know it?
[2 Timothy 4:2] says, ‘Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long- suffering and teaching. It is the Word of God that changes people. His truth changes people through the Holy Spirit. Yes, God can use our talents or gifts to change people; He works in us and through us, but it is ultimately God that changes people – not us.
2. To Get Guidance from God
When was the last time you prayed for wisdom when was the last time you asked god for wisdom and understanding , we asked the lord for so many things we ask for miracles for possessions for opportunities but have you ever thought what godly wisdom would do to and for you

There is jubilation by the blessing of the upright the city is exalted but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked he who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor but a man of understanding holds his peace now let us pray dear father i come before you today knowing
